Visits to the Children and Adolescent Obesity Department at IASO Children’s Hospital are scheduled by appointment and offer comprehensive care for its young patients.
According to the World Health Organization, the increase of overweight and obese individuals of all ages is a major public health problem worldwide, due to epidemic proportions reached in recent years.
Various studies have proved the relationship between obesity and Complete Metabolic syndrome, i.e. a group of metabolic disorders (high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia, central obesity, etc.) that act synergistically in the long-term development of heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
However, overweight and obese children are at risk for becoming obese adults and developing complete metabolic syndrome and its complications at a younger age.
As a result, fighting childhood obesity should be number one priority.
“Champions” in childhood obesity:
- 18% overweight/10% seriously overweight preschool-aged children1,
- 28% overweight/13% seriously overweight school-aged children and adolescents2.
