Driven by the Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day on 14 February, IASO Children’s Hospital and in particular the Departments of Pediatric cardiac-surgery and Pediatric cardiology, are holding the 2nd Scientific Session on Friday 14 February 2014 at 12.30 p.m. in the Event’s Hall of IASO Clinic, 37-39 Kifissias Avenue, Maroussi. The following subjects will be discussed: “Therapeutic Cardiac Catheterization in Children” and “Common congenital heart defects - surgical treatment and results”.
It is pointed out that the incidence of congenital heart defects is 0.8-1.2% on a global scale whereas in Greece, 1,000 infants are born every year with congenital heart defects. It is estimated that 40,000 to 50,000 adolescents suffer from this disease.
Early diagnosis, applicable surgical treatment and medication and regular monitoring in specialist centers are factors providing better quality of life to these patients.
Within the scope of addressing these conditions, IASO Children’s Hospital recently established two new medical Departments, Pediatric cardiac-surgery and Pediatric cardiology, which aspire to become a point of reference in our country by providing specialist healthcare services, emphasizing in congenital heart defects. These new Departments have been staffed with highly trained and experienced medical and nursing staff as well as with the most sophisticated technology, thus proving once more in practice that IASO Group is totally devoted to the care of the mother and the child. To date, a significant number of cardiology and cardiac-surgery cases have been successfully treated.
At the Study Day, the causes of congenital heart defects and their management will be discussed. Dr. Panagiotis Lagos, Professor of Pediatrics, Chief of IASO Children’s Hospital Medical Services is the Study Day’s coordinator. Speeches will be delivered by the highly esteemed scientists Messrs Dr. Georgios S. Tsaousis, MEAP, MESC, MAEPC, FACC, FSCAI, Pediatric-cardiologist, Chief of the Pediatric-cardiology Department at IASO Children’s Hospital and Dr. Georgios I. Sarris, MD, RhD, FACC, FACS, FAHA, FCTS, FETCS, Cardiac-surgeon – Pediatric cardiac-surgeon, Chief of the Department of Pediatric cardiac-surgery at IASO Children’s Hospital.
